Why Cold-Climate Units Matter at Altitude
At 6,000 to 7,000 feet, temps drop well below those in the valley. A standard heat pump loses output in extreme cold. Cold-climate heat pumps are built to run at lower temps and still heat well. These units often score higher on efficiency ratings, which helps qualify for more rebate programs.
A full heat pump swap in the Tahoe area runs $8,000 to $18,000 before rebates. Fresh Air uses milestone billing and can do most installs in about 48 hours. We have done 900+ units since 2010 and know the high-altitude permit and code rules in this area.
